Sangtuda II Dam and HPP is located in the southwest of Tajikistan 180 km southeast of Dushanbe and on the River Vakhsh, which is one of the main rivers of this country with an annual discharge of 630 m3/ sec.

The main objective of Sangtuda II Dam and HPP is hydropower energy generation.



History

The project studies were initially awarded to Hydro-project Co. of the Soviet Union in the late 1980s. The feasibility studies of Sangtuda II Dam and HPP were conducted between the years 1984 to 1986 by the Ministry of Energy of the Soviet Union. The detail design was carried out during 1986-1989 and approved in 1990. Afterwards, the EPC contract of Sangtuda II Dam and HPP was signed between Sangab Co. and the Owner. Eventually, the consultation and construction supervision services of this project were awarded to Mahab Ghodss Consulting Engineering Co. in 2006.
